Human Resources Manager (Maternity Leave)

PocketPills is Canada’s fastest-growing online pharmacy startup looking to disrupt the traditional retail pharmacy business in Canada (TAM $30B) and we are seeking a HR Manager for a 18-month maternity leave with the potential to become permanent, as we are opening offices in other provinces. The Role:

Reporting to the CEO, the HR Manager is responsible for managing a small team of HR Generalists, Recruiters and Office Administrators.  The role focuses on managing, advising, and coaching at all levels within the organization including the management team in all functional areas of HR including performance management, employee relations, recruitment, policy, procedures, compensation, organizational development, and applicable provincial legislation in the provinces we operate in including BC, AB, MB, ON, QC, NS.  



  • Manage and lead the overall performance and direction of the HR and office team (5 direct reports).
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the HR department for Canada.
  • Manage a wide variety of HR functions including performance management, employee relations, recruitment, policy, procedures, compensation and organizational development.
  • Continue to set the strategy for building a strong employee culture to attract and retain talent as the organization continues to rapidly grow.
  • Support and lead HR projects and initiatives to continue to build out the structure. including policies and programs. Experience building job levels, performance review systems and compensation programs is preferred.
  • Manage and assist the team in employee relation matters with managers on performance and/or disciplinary issues. 
  • Develop and continuously update employee engagement initiatives.



  • Post-secondary education in HR, Business or related fields. CPHR designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ of experience in end-to-end Human Resources with previous supervisory/ management experience with direct reports.
  • Extensive experience in employee relations is required.
  • Thrive in a growing, entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, energetic and entrepreneurial leader.
  • Working knowledge of Provincial employment standards and legislation in various provinces in Canada.
  • Experience in HRIS project management,implementation and rollout. 
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
